Job description

**Job Purpose** Provide professional oversight and consultancy for heavy oil operations, ensuring that operational and technical issues are proactively identified, effectively addressed, and resolved in a timely manner. **Key Responsibilities** * Provide expert consultancy and technical guidance on heavy oil operations, equipment, and machinery to support safe, reliable, and efficient performance. * Proactively identify operational and technical issues, assess their impact, and recommend practical solutions and mitigation measures. * Coordinate with relevant teams to resolve complex operational challenges and ensure agreed corrective actions are implemented. * Review operating practices, performance trends, and recurring issues to support continuous improvement and risk reduction. * Lead technical assessments, troubleshooting activities, and root\-cause analyses for significant or recurring operational problems. * Develop improvement initiatives to optimize production performance, equipment reliability, energy efficiency, and operating cost. * Provide technical assurance for operational changes, modifications, and improvement projects. * Support preparation and review of technical procedures, operating guidelines, risk assessments, and lessons learned. * Monitor key performance indicators and advise management on operational risks, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities. * Coordinate across Operations, Maintenance, Operational Technical Services, Process Safety Management, Inspection \& Corrosion, Engineering, HSE, and other stakeholders. * Review and optimize heavy oil chemical management, including chemical usage, handling, storage, compatibility, treatment effectiveness, and field performance. * Promote compliance with HSE requirements, company procedures, technical standards, and regulatory obligations. * Promote innovation, new technologies, digital tools, and data\-driven solutions. * Mentor and support less experienced staff through knowledge sharing and technical coaching. **Minimum Academic Qualifications** * BSc in **Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline**. * MSc in **Petroleum Engineering, Heavy Oil Production, Energy Management, or a related technical field**. **Preferred Additional Qualifications** * PhD in Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Heavy Oil Production, Energy Management, or a related technical field. * Additional training or postgraduate studies in heavy oil operations, production optimization, surface facilities, asset integrity, or reliability engineering. * Professional membership or registration with a recognized engineering body is advantageous. **Experience Requirements** * Minimum **15 years of relevant oil and gas experience**, with significant exposure to: * heavy oil operations; * production operations; * surface facilities; * operations support; * maintenance; * process troubleshooting; * production optimization. * At least **5 years in a senior technical, advisory, specialist, or consultant\-level role**. * Experience providing technical consultancy, operational assurance, and troubleshooting support for heavy oil operations and facilities. * Demonstrated experience in root\-cause analysis, performance improvement, risk mitigation, and corrective\-action implementation. * Proven ability to work with multidisciplinary teams. **Mandatory Technical Competencies** * Advanced knowledge of heavy oil production operations and machinery, including: * production systems; * surface facilities; * steam generation and injection; * **Once\-Through Steam Generator (OTSG)** technology; * related heavy oil processes. * Good command of MS Office, MS Project, and similar support applications. * Strong technical troubleshooting, operational problem\-solving, and root\-cause analysis capability. * Ability to provide independent technical judgment and balanced recommendations. * Ability to prepare technical reports, presentations, recommendations, action plans, and management briefings. * Working knowledge of production optimization, equipment reliability, process monitoring, and operational risk management. * Ability to review and interpret procedures, standards, process data, performance trends, and engineering documents. * Strong understanding of HSE requirements, risk assessment practices, permit\-to\-work systems, and compliance requirements. **Preferred Certifications / Training** * Root Cause Analysis certification or training such as **RCA, TapRooT, Apollo RCA, or equivalent**. * Process Safety Management, HAZOP, HAZID, or risk\-assessment training. * Training in production optimization, heavy oil operations, artificial lift, surface facilities, or reliability engineering. * Professional engineering registration or membership. * PMP or Lean Six Sigma is an advantage. **Additional Requirements** * Strong analytical ability to interpret operational data and identify performance gaps. * Ability to work under operational pressure and manage multiple priorities. * Familiarity with enterprise asset management and production reporting systems is an advantage. * Good written and spoken English; Arabic is an advantage. * Commitment to coaching and knowledge transfer. * Preferably holds a valid Kuwait driving license.
