Job title Snr Engineer (Rotating) Grade Stream Downstream - RPI Function TSD- Engineering Services Mechanical Rotating Location Sohar Budget control *OPEX and/or CAPEX and/or Revenue amount as relevant* Reporting to TL Mechanical Rotating- Engineering Services Direct reports - Job purpose Provides robust professional technical expertise, analysis, troubleshooting, and operation support for Rotating Equipment engineering services under TL Mechanical Engineering Services scope; through (1) Development of new projects and improvements in rotating equipment, (2) Preparing, reviewing, analyzing, and making cost estimates, design work connected with minor and major capital investment and expense items, for modifications and alterations to existing systems or installation of new systems, either by Maintenance Department or through external contractors, (3) Ensuring that all engineering work is completed on schedule, on budget and in accordance with project specification & company requirements, (4) Implement continuous improvements of rotating equipment/services, tasks. The position will act in accordance with the OQ s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Oman s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives. Main tasks and responsibilities: Technical Support Serve as subject matter expert for mechanical engineering issues, offering guidance and solutions to ensure operational reliability and efficiency. Review engineering deliverables, including design packages, specifications, calculations, and reports. Provide troubleshooting, root cause analysis, Bad actor, and resolution for critical mechanical equipment failures. Ensure compliance with assets management standards, HSSE requirements, and regulatory obligations. Project & Operations Interface Support major capital projects, maintenance activities, and turnarounds by providing timely mechanical engineering input. Lead technical evaluations, and cost-benefit analyses for equipment upgrades or modifications. Coordinate with procurement and vendors to ensure the quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of supplied mechanical equipment. Participate in risk assessments, hazard reviews, and incident investigations. Project & Operations Support Oversee mechanical engineering inputs to capital projects, turnarounds, and maintenance activities. Ensure the timely delivery of technical evaluations. Coordinate with procurement and contractors to ensure cost-effective and high-quality execution. Contribute to risk assessments, root cause analysis, and incident investigations as required. Performance & Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities for improving asset reliability, maintainability, and performance of mechanical equipment. Recommend and implement advanced engineering practices and emerging technologies. Contribute to departmental KPIs and ensure delivery of high-quality engineering services. Background and experience Competencies and skills • 6-8 years of relevant experience • Engineer role within the Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical industry, with experience in rotating equipment • Experience and well versed in field investigation, inspections, troubleshooting, performance checks, data compilation, etc. • Understanding of Process Plant (P& ID / PFD) & Engineering drawings and OEM manuals. • Knowledge in software applications like Meridium, PI, and RBI, etc. • Good knowledge and expertise of SAP (PM & MM & FM Modules) Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) • Computer knowledge in MS Office applications like MS Word, MS Excel, etc. • Well versed in international code & standard: • API 610, 674, 675, 682, 617, 618, 673, 616, 692, 611/612 etc. NFPA • Experience with Centrifugal Pumps, Centrifugal Compressors, Gear Boxes, Turbo expanders, Gas turbines, steam turbines, Fans, and blowers • Experience in rotating equipment condition monitoring, thermodynamic performance data analysis • Valuable experience and knowledge of maintenance processes, managing of Maintenance Contracts, and shutdown-related jobs.
