Job description
• Own the onsite work queue through the service desk/PSA; maintain priority, status, evidence and time records, and coordinate incidents and requests with the SDM, NOC and specialists.
• Investigate physical faults using server management interfaces, hardware logs, indicator status, vendor diagnostics and environmental checks.
• Perform authorised replacement or reseating of supported components such as disks, memory, power supplies, fans, optics and network equipment, following vendor procedures.
• Check compatibility, ESD protection, redundancy, backups and impact before intervention.
• Distinguish vendor-approved hot swaps from work requiring shutdown; check RAID and rebuild health, validate service recovery and record parts, serial numbers and results.
• Carry out safe rack work, patching and cable checks; maintain labels, port records and rack documentation, following site electrical and lifting rules.
• Administer Windows Server and investigate operating system, service, disk-space, DNS, DHCP and directory-related faults within assigned access and competence.
• Perform approved routine hypervisor, storage and backup checks; investigate failed jobs, host health and connectivity and assist with authorised recovery tests.
• Troubleshoot switching, VLANs, PoE, wireless, cabling and connectivity; execute approved configuration or physical changes under specialist direction where required.
• Provide effective hands-and-eyes support through photographs, logs, accurate observations and clear communication with remote engineers.
• Coordinate approved vendor attendance, warranty cases and replacement parts.
• Secure removed disks and other data-bearing components, preserve chain-of-custody records and follow authorised sanitisation or return procedures.
• Keep tickets, asset records, diagrams and handovers accurate; escalate complex faults, unsafe work, security concerns and scope changes promptly.
• Perform scheduled infrastructure health checks and maintenance; follow up hardware, warranty, backup and monitoring issues requiring onsite action.
• When capacity is available, undertake other assigned IT-Serve work, keeping systems and data separate.
• Onsite presence does not expand the assigned service scope.
• Follow IT-Serve security procedures, protect confidential information and escalate unsafe work, security concerns or delivery risks promptly.
• Regulated-sector experience is desirable rather than mandatory.
• Experience with the server, storage, firewall and switching vendors supported by IT-Serve and used at the assigned site.
• Relevant hardware service training, associate networking or server administration qualifications.
• Relevant technical training or assessed equivalent experience is essential.
• Server, networking, virtualisation, hardware vendor and ITIL qualifications are desirable.
• Proven ability to work independently onsite, follow approved runbooks and involve specialists when a fault exceeds local authority.
• Strong equivalent practical capability may be accepted following assessment.
• Communication and teamwork skills: communicate clearly with colleagues and clients, take ownership of work, maintain accurate records and provide timely progress updates.
• Work constructively across the team, mentor others where appropriate and recognise when specialist support is needed.
