Steel Inspection Engineer

**Job Summary** We are seeking a qualified **Steel Inspection Engineer** to oversee and inspect structural steel fabrication, welding, surface preparation, painting, galvanizing, and site erection activities. The successful candidate will ensure all work complies with approved drawings, project specifications, applicable codes, client requirements, and quality standards while coordinating with production, engineering, project, and site teams. **Key ResponsibilitiesInspection \& Quality Control** * Inspect structural steel fabrication activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings and project specifications. * Verify incoming materials, mill test certificates (MTCs), and material traceability. * Conduct stage\-wise inspections during cutting, fit\-up, drilling, welding, assembly, and finishing. * Perform dimensional inspections using approved measuring equipment. * Verify fabrication tolerances according to project specifications and applicable standards. * Ensure all inspections are carried out according to the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP). * Witness client and third\-party inspections as required. **Welding Inspection** * Inspect welding activities before, during, and after welding. * Verify WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records. * Monitor welding parameters and consumables. * Inspect weld fit\-up, joint preparation, alignment, and welding quality. * Coordinate and witness NDT activities including UT, RT, MT, PT, and VT. * Review NDT reports and ensure corrective actions are implemented. **Surface Preparation \& Coating** * Inspect blasting activities and verify surface preparation standards. * Measure surface profile and cleanliness before coating. * Inspect primer, intermediate, and finish coat applications. * Measure Dry Film Thickness (DFT) using approved instruments. * Inspect galvanizing quality and coating thickness. * Ensure painting and galvanizing comply with project specifications. **Site Inspection** * Inspect structural steel erection and installation works. * Verify bolt tightening, alignment, leveling, and structural connections. * Inspect grouting, anchor bolts, base plates, and steel member installation. * Ensure site activities comply with approved drawings and quality standards. * Coordinate inspections with clients and consultants. **Documentation \& Reporting** * Prepare inspection reports and quality records. * Raise Inspection Requests (IRs) for consultant approval. * Maintain inspection checklists and quality documentation. * Record Non\-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and monitor corrective actions. * Maintain punch lists and close\-out records. * Ensure all inspection documents are updated and properly filed. **Material Inspection** * Verify incoming steel materials and fabricated components. * Inspect storage, handling, and preservation of materials. * Ensure material identification and traceability are maintained. * Monitor material quality throughout fabrication and erection. **Project Coordination** * Coordinate with Production, Engineering, QA/QC, Project, Procurement, and Site teams. * Attend quality meetings and project coordination meetings. * Support production teams in resolving quality\-related issues. * Coordinate third\-party inspections and client approvals. * Follow up on quality observations and corrective actions. **Quality Assurance** * Ensure compliance with project specifications, approved drawings, and contract requirements. * Verify implementation of quality procedures and company standards. * Participate in internal quality audits. * Support ISO 9001 quality management system implementation. * Promote continuous improvement in quality processes. **Health, Safety \& Environment** * Ensure inspections are carried out safely according to HSE requirements. * Follow company safety procedures during workshop and site inspections. * Report unsafe conditions and quality\-related safety concerns. * Ensure inspection equipment is used safely and correctly. **Project Close\-Out** * Verify completion of punch list items. * Participate in final inspections and project handover. * Prepare final quality documentation and inspection dossiers. * Support project close\-out and client handover activities. **General Responsibilities** * Maintain confidentiality of project information. * Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. * Keep inspection equipment calibrated and in good condition. * Perform any other duties assigned by the QA/QC Manager or Project Manager. **RequirementsEducation** * Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related discipline. **Experience** * 3–8 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, or steel construction projects. * UAE/GCC experience is preferred. * Experience in structural steel, PEB, steel fabrication, oil \& gas, industrial, EPC, or infrastructure projects is an advantage. **Technical Skills** * Ability to read structural drawings, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and project specifications. * Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection processes. * Knowledge of welding inspection and NDT methods (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT). * Familiarity with painting inspection, DFT measurement, and galvanizing inspection. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality documentation. * Knowledge of inspection tools and measuring instruments. **Preferred Certifications** * CSWIP 3\.1 or CSWIP 3\.2 * AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) * BGAS Painting Inspector (preferred) * NACE Coating Inspector (preferred) * ASNT Level II (UT/MT/PT/RT/VT) is an advantage **Core Competencies** * Strong
