Job description
Job Purpose
• Oversees the activities of quality control section for steel plant operations and production, ensuring production output adheres by the standards and expectations of management and customers.
Quality Standards and Procedures
• Coordinate with the production unit and sales & marketing to set/update the standards with respect to quality parameters and metallurgical process questions.
• Improve internal policies and procedures to conduct quality control checks on raw materials, products as well as production lines.
Manage Quality Control & Quality Assurance Activities
• Monitor quality control checks schedules, allocate required resources, and coordinate with the production units to ensure alignment on schedules.
• Support the Department Manager on the annual budget and the strategic plan for the Quality Control department.
• Supervises and coordinates trials for cost savings and quality improvements.
• Ensure availability of equipment and consumables required for the quality control lab and issue MPRs when required.
• Coordinates all necessary communication, instructions and agreements related to the department and from Management reaches everyone in the shop.
• Monitoring and making sure that the IMS (ISO) system is established and implemented properly.
Performance Management
• Monitor section level KPIs for the Quality Control Section and cascade them to the lower level.
• Help in reviewing customer complaints on product quality and assess implications on existing quality control standards and processes.
Staff and Self Development
• Ensure all quality control section staff undergo required specialization and HSE training.
• Take ownership of own career and skill development by constantly maintaining and increasing subject matter expertise in both general and required specialization areas, working closely with department heads.
• Engineering Degree (Metallurgical, Chemical or Industrial Engineering preferred) or equivalent technical degree.
• Certified Lead auditor as per ISO 9001.
• 7+ years’ practical experiences in Quality Control in a Steel Plant or similar process industry sector.
• Knowledgeable in ERP systems.
• Expert in quality systems, tools and processes.
• Sound knowledge of company’s culture as well as its operational and business processes.
