Job description
Job Description Engineering Manager Remote
Type: Full-time, remote, part hands-on
Awafi Clinic is looking for an Engineering Manager to own the team, how work ships, and whether the product stays up. This is a player-coach role: part people leadership, part delivery ownership, and part hands-on engineering. The candidate should know the clinic's stack well enough to read the code, review it, and judge technical trade-offs: PHP/Laravel, React/Next.js, Flutter, and cloud infrastructure on GCP with Terraform. The Engineering Manager sets the standards the team works to and is accountable for what reaches production.
Requirements:
• Bachelor s degree or diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field .
• Previous experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or shipping operations is preferred.
• Knowledge of shipment documentation and transportation procedures.
• Familiarity with import/export processes and customs documentation is an advantage.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and logistics management systems.
• Strong communication, coordination, and negotiation skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple shipments and meet deadlines.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Customer-focused approach and professional attitude.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with warehouse and operations teams.
Joining Zahr Freighters as a Logistics Executive in Dubai offers an opportunity to develop valuable experience in freight forwarding, shipment coordination, and supply chain operations. Candidates who are proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing logistics activities efficiently can contribute to reliable transportation services and customer satisfaction.
People. Manages the engineering team: one-to-ones, growth plans, performance, hiring and onboarding. Distributes work to match capability and develops it.
Delivery. Owns what the team commits to each cycle and whether it lands. The Product Manager sets priority; the Engineering Manager decides what fits and holds the line on scope.
Engineering standards. Enforces code review, automated testing and a working definition of done. Sets the bar and keeps it.
Release control. Owns the path to production: branch protection, a passing test gate, environment parity, a documented rollback, and a quality sign-off that can stop a release.
Reliability. Monitoring, alerting, on-call, incident response and blameless postmortems. Accountable for uptime, not just for features.
Technical direction. Partners with senior engineers on architecture and technical debt. Stays hands-on enough to review code and judge trade-offs.
Documentation and knowledge. Keeps documentation living and owned, with structured onboarding so knowledge does not sit in one person's head.
Reporting. Gives leadership a clear read on delivery health, risk and capacity.
5+ years engineering experience, with 2+ managing engineers directly
Accountability for production reliability in a previous role: on-call, incident command, postmortems
Track record of introducing engineering discipline: code review, CI/CD, test gates, environments
Working knowledge of the clinic's stack, PHP/Laravel and React/Next.js in particular, with enough depth to review code and hold a peer conversation with the most senior engineer on the team
Comfortable being hands-on across several codebases while still managing the team
Clear communicator with non-technical stakeholders
Fluent English; Arabic an advantage
Nice to have
Flutter or other cross-platform mobile, and app release management
GCP, Terraform and containerised deployment
Multi-codebase or multi-product estates
Test automation strategy and QA practice
Environments handling sensitive personal data
