Job description
We are a leading international grain trading house with a strong global footprint, sourcing and distributing agricultural commodities across key markets. As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a dynamic and commercially minded Chartering Manager to join our freight team and support both internal shipping needs and third-party freight operations. The Chartering Manager Dry Bulk will be responsible for chartering vessels (Handy to Panamax) to transport in-house cargoes and leveraging their market network to identify and fix third-party cargoes, optimizing fleet utilization and contributing to the company's freight P&L. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of the dry bulk market, strong negotiation skills, and a proactive approach to freight optimization and risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
• Chartering & Operations: Source and fix suitable tonnage (Handy, Supramax, Ultramax, Panamax) for internal cargo flows on both voyage and time charter basis. Negotiate charter party terms with Owners, Brokers, and Operators to ensure optimal freight rates and conditions. Manage end-to-end chartering processes including pre- and post-fixture operations. Ensure timely and cost-effective shipping of grain cargoes in compliance with contractual obligations.
• Market Intelligence & Networking: Maintain a deep understanding of the dry bulk freight market, including supply/demand dynamics, bunker trends, and baltic indices. Develop and maintain a wide network of vessel owners, charterers, and competitive brokers globally. Actively monitor market movements to capture profitable arbitrage opportunities and inform internal traders.
• Commercial Strategy: Assist in developing freight strategies that align with trading desk goals. Collaborate with traders, logistics, and risk teams to ensure efficient and cost-effective freight solutions. Identify and pursue 3rd party cargo opportunities to improve vessel utilization and contribute to freight P&L.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in dry bulk chartering, preferably within a trading house, shipowner, operator, or broker environment.
• Strong experience in fixing both time charter and voyage charter contracts (Handy to Panamax size), with experience in the Atlantic market.
• Existing network of vessel owners, charterers, and brokers is essential.
• Fluency in English
• Knowledge of agricultural commodities (especially grains) is a strong advantage.
• Strong commercial acumen, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Self-driven with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in freight management tools, Excel, and shipping systems
• Understanding of ships particulars and cargo stowage
