Job description

Oversee and inspect construction activities related to structural works (e.g., foundations, retaining structures, piers, buildings, and related infrastructure) for the island project. Monitor contractors work to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, codes, and relevant standards. Conduct regular site inspections and prepare detailed inspection reports, including photos, measurements, and observations of non-conformances. Verify quality of materials and workmanship, including concrete, steel, masonry, and other structural components, and witness testing as required. Check formwork, reinforcement placement, concrete pouring, curing, and structural connections to ensure structural integrity and safety. Review and comment on method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and quality control procedures submitted by contractors. Coordinate with construction supervisors, site engineers, and quality teams to resolve technical issues and non-conformances. Ensure all structural work respects project plans, geotechnical constraints, marine/shoreline conditions, and environmental protection requirements specific to island construction. Monitor progress of structural works against the construction program and flag potential delays or risks to the project schedule. Enforce safety standards and participate in toolbox talks and safety audits, with a focus on structural work activities (e.g., lifting, working at heights, marine works). Support inspections for handover, snagging, and final acceptance of structural elements and related civil works. Maintain organized records of inspections, test results, approvals, and as-built information for structural components. Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering, or equivalent technical qualification. Proven experience (typically 5-7) in structural inspection or construction supervision on infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and construction practices (e.g., reinforcement detailing, concrete works, structural steel erection). Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents. Good communication skills to coordinate with contractors, consultants, and client representatives on site. Commitment to health, safety, and environmental regulations, especially in a remote/island construction environment. Basic computer skills, including use of email, MS Office (Word, Excel), and document management systems. Experience working on island, coastal, or marine-related projects (e.g., jetties, sea defenses, waterfront structures). Familiarity with geotechnical and coastal engineering considerations that affect structural works on islands. Experience with large-scale infrastructure projects involving multiple stakeholders and contractors.
