Job description

The **Secondary Lead Refining Specialist** oversees the melting, purification, and alloying of recycled lead materials. This role focuses heavily on the **refining phase**, transforming crude lead bullion from scrap (such as spent car batteries) into high\-purity lead or specialized lead alloys. The specialist operates high\-temperature furnaces and refining kettles while adhering to strict environmental, safety, and quality standards. **Key Responsibilities \& Duties1\. Refining \& Purification Operations** * **Operate refining kettles:** Manage pyrometallurgical refining processes using high\-temperature kettles and blast furnaces. * **Remove impurities:** Add specific chemical reagents (such as sulfur, caustic soda, or nitre) to molten lead to separate elements like copper, tin, arsenic, antimony, and silver. * **Skim dross:** Safely skim and remove non\-lead impurities (dross) from the surface of the molten metal. * **Pour and cast:** Cast the fully refined, purified lead into commercial ingots or blocks for shipment. **2\. Quality Control \& Alloying** * **Sample molten metal:** Take periodic liquid metal samples during the refining cycle for laboratory analysis. * **Adjust chemical chemistry:** Read spectrographic test results and add precise amounts of elements to blend lead alloys according to exact customer specifications. * **Monitor temperature:** Maintain strict control over thermal profiles to optimize chemical reactions and maximize lead recovery rates. **3\. Equipment \& Safety Management** * **Operate heavy machinery:** Safely run pumps, agitators, overhead cranes, and casting machines. * **Follow strict EHS rules:** Wear specialized personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, to prevent lead exposure. * **Maintain equipment:** Perform routine inspections and minor troubleshooting on furnaces and refining tools. **Qualifications \& Skills** * **Experience:** 2\+ years of experience in foundry work, smelting, or pyrometallurgical refining operations. * **Technical skills:** Strong understanding of metal refining techniques, drossing, and chemical additives. * **Physical stamina:** Ability to work in high\-heat environments and lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs). * **Education:** High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in metallurgy or chemical processing are a plus.
