**Role Overview**
The Data Annotation Specialist labels, tags, categorizes, and reviews text\-based data that supports the training, testing, and continuous improvement of large language models.
The role calls for careful reading comprehension, sound judgment, and close adherence to project\-specific annotation guidelines, taxonomies, and quality rubrics. Day to day work covers intent classification, entity tagging, response labeling, preference ranking, quality scoring, and content categorization.
Specialists work alongside Project Coordinators, Quality Assurance, and Domain Leads to keep annotations accurate, consistently applied, and delivered on schedule, while flagging ambiguous items, edge cases, and guideline gaps for review.
The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail and prior experience in data annotation, content review, quality assurance, or a related analytical discipline.
**Responsibilities**
As a Data Annotation Specialist, you will:
* Annotate text\-based data such as prompts, responses, conversations, and documents in line with project guidelines, taxonomies, and labeling schemas.
* Apply structured labels, tags, categories, and classifications accurately across large volumes of content.
* Perform intent classification, entity and named\-entity tagging, sentiment labeling, topic categorization, and content review flagging.
* Rank, rate, or compare multiple AI\-generated responses to the same prompt against defined quality criteria such as helpfulness, accuracy, safety, and tone.
* Identify and label factual errors, guideline violations, and low\-quality responses within datasets.
* Review and correct existing or machine\-generated annotations for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
* Apply correct formatting, metadata tagging, and structural conventions consistent with project standards and data schemas.
* Handle ambiguous, edge\-case, or conflicting labeling scenarios according to guideline precedence rules.
* Escalate unclear, low\-quality, or out\-of\-scope data to Project Coordinators or Quality Assurance.
* Meet productivity targets, throughput expectations, and turnaround times while holding annotation quality steady.
* Follow updated guidelines, taxonomies, and reference materials to keep large volumes of work consistent.
* Participate in calibration exercises, guideline reviews, and inter\-rater reliability sessions to stay aligned with evolving project standards.
* Apply feedback from Quality Assurance reviewers to improve annotation accuracy over time.
* Maintain confidentiality and data security standards when handling prompt, response, and annotation content.
* Use designated annotation, labeling, or data collection platforms accurately and efficiently.
* Communicate proactively with Project Coordinators about guideline questions, technical issues, or capacity constraints.
* Support pilot phases for new projects by giving feedback on guideline clarity and workflow usability.
**Required Experience and Skills**
* Strong reading comprehension in English or the assigned working language, with the ability to follow detailed written guidelines precisely.
* Prior experience in data annotation, data labeling, content review, quality assurance, or a related analytical discipline.
* Strong attention to detail, applying structured criteria consistently and objectively.
* Ability to follow detailed and evolving annotation guidelines, taxonomies, and rubrics with precision.
* Strong critical thinking skills for resolving ambiguous or conflicting labeling scenarios using guideline logic.
* Comfort working with annotation, labeling, or data collection platforms and tools.
* Ability to write clear, concise justifications or notes for labeling decisions where required.
* Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet delivery deadlines.
* Strong written communication skills for guideline clarification, feedback, and escalation reporting.
