JOB DESCRIPTION – PATTERN MASTER Position: Pattern Master Department: Sampling and Production Reports to: Production Manager / Factory Manager Job Summary The Pattern Master is responsible for developing accurate garment patterns from sketches, reference samples, measurement charts, or buyer specifications. The role includes pattern correction, garment fitting, size grading, fabric\-consumption control, and technical support to the sampling and production teams. Key Responsibilities * Develop garment patterns according to design sketches, reference samples, measurement charts, and customer requirements. * Create patterns for women’s wear, men’s wear, children’s wear, or other product categories handled by the factory. * Prepare the first pattern and coordinate with the sampling tailor to produce the development sample. * Check sample measurements, garment balance, fitting, shape, construction, and overall appearance. * Attend fitting sessions and make the required pattern corrections. * Identify and solve fitting problems such as pulling, twisting, uneven hems, incorrect armholes, sleeve issues, neckline problems, and poor garment balance. * Grade approved patterns into all required sizes while maintaining the correct fit and proportions. * Prepare complete production pattern sets with all required markings, including notches, grain lines, drill marks, seam allowances, pleats, darts, pocket positions, and button placements. * Prepare marker plans or coordinate marker making to achieve efficient fabric utilization. * Calculate or support the calculation of fabric consumption for costing and bulk production. * Consider fabric behaviour such as shrinkage, stretch, drape, washing, fusing, and relaxation while preparing patterns. * Conduct shrinkage adjustments according to fabric test results and wash requirements. * Check and approve size\-set samples, pre\-production samples, and pilot\-run garments before bulk cutting. * Support the cutting department and explain pattern placement, garment components, and special cutting requirements. * Coordinate with designers, merchandisers, sampling tailors, cutting staff, quality controllers, and production supervisors. * Ensure approved patterns are clearly labelled, properly stored, and easily traceable by style, customer, size, and version. * Maintain records of pattern amendments and ensure outdated patterns are not used for production. * Help establish standard measurement charts, grading rules, and pattern\-development procedures. * Resolve pattern\- and fitting\-related issues that arise during bulk production. * Work within the required sampling and production deadlines. Required Skills and Experience * Minimum 3\-5 years of experience as a Pattern Master in garment manufacturing. * Strong knowledge of manual pattern making; CAD pattern\-making experience is preferred. * Good understanding of garment construction, sewing methods, grading, fabric behaviour, and production requirements. * Ability to develop patterns from sketches, photographs, measurement charts, and physical samples. * Strong fitting and problem\-solving ability. * Experience with woven and knitted garments is preferred. * Knowledge of fabric consumption and marker efficiency. * Ability to communicate clearly with sampling tailors, cutters, supervisors, and designers. * Must be accurate, organized, responsible, and capable of working under production deadlines. Performance Expectations * Accurate patterns with minimum fitting corrections. * Correct grading and measurement consistency across all sizes. * Timely completion of development and production patterns. * Efficient fabric consumption with minimal wastage. * Clear coordination between sampling, cutting, quality, and production departments. * Reduction in bulk\-production problems caused by incorrect patterns.
