Position Overview International School of London Qatar (ISL Qatar) is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled and collaborative **Middle School Physical \& Health Education Teacher** to join our diverse and internationally minded learning community. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high\-quality Physical and Health Education to Middle School students, promoting physical activity, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, personal responsibility and positive wellbeing. As an IB World School, ISL Qatar expects the successful candidate to embrace the philosophy and practices of the **IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)** and to develop learning experiences that are inquiry\-based, concept\-driven and connected to meaningful real\-world contexts. The teacher will inspire students to become confident, active and reflective learners while developing their physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills. Key Responsibilities Teaching and Learning * Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive and appropriately challenging Physical and Health Education lessons for Middle School students. * Deliver a balanced programme incorporating a range of **individual, team, indoor and outdoor sports and physical activities**. * Develop students' physical literacy, movement competence, fitness, coordination, tactical awareness and understanding of sport. * Promote participation, enjoyment and lifelong engagement in physical activity. * Adapt activities, instruction and expectations to accommodate different abilities, needs, confidence levels and physical capabilities. * Create a safe, positive and encouraging environment where all students are motivated to participate. * Teach students about health, fitness, nutrition, wellbeing, injury prevention and healthy lifestyle choices where appropriate within the curriculum. * Develop students' understanding of teamwork, leadership, communication, resilience, fair play and respect. * Use questioning, inquiry and reflection to help students understand not only **how** to perform but **why** particular techniques, strategies and choices are effective. IB MYP Physical \& Health Education * Plan and deliver learning in accordance with the IB MYP Physical and Health Education framework. * Develop **concept\-driven and inquiry\-based units** that connect physical activity and health to broader concepts and real\-world contexts. * Incorporate MYP **Approaches to Learning (ATL)** skills, including communication, collaboration, self\-management, research and reflection. * Develop students' ability to analyse, evaluate and reflect on their own performance and learning. * Use appropriate MYP terminology, planning processes and assessment practices. * Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary learning opportunities where appropriate. * Contribute to the ongoing development and review of the MYP Physical and Health Education curriculum. The IB identifies MYP Physical and Health Education as learning both **about physical activity and through physical activity**, with students developing knowledge, skills and attitudes that contribute to a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Assessment and Student Progress * Plan and implement appropriate formative and summative assessment strategies. * Assess students against relevant MYP Physical and Health Education criteria. * Provide clear, constructive and timely feedback to help students improve their physical performance and understanding. * Encourage students to set personal goals and monitor their own progress. * Use assessment information to differentiate instruction and provide appropriate challenge and support. * Maintain accurate records of student achievement and progress. * Develop students' ability to reflect critically on their performance, decision\-making and learning. Student Wellbeing, Inclusion and Safeguarding * Promote physical activity as an important component of students' overall health and wellbeing. * Foster positive relationships, teamwork, respect and responsible behaviour. * Ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with appropriate health and safety requirements. * Conduct appropriate risk assessments and follow school procedures for sports, facilities, equipment, trips and activities. * Monitor students carefully during physical activity and respond appropriately to injuries or medical concerns. * Ensure that students with additional learning needs or physical limitations are appropriately supported and included. * Maintain professional boundaries and uphold all safeguarding and child protection requirements. * Report safeguarding, wellbeing or health concerns through the appropriate school procedures. Sport, Activities and Wider School Contribution * Contribute to the school's wider sports and physical activity programme. * Support extracurricular sports, clubs, competitions, fixtures and school sporting events as required. * Encourage participation in sport beyond timetabled lessons. * Support school teams and represent ISL Qatar positively at inter\-school competitions and events. * Contribute to sports days, activity weeks, tournaments, trips and other school\-wide initiatives. * Support students in developing leadership opportunities through sport and physical activity. * Promote positive sportsmanship and respectful behaviour when representing the school. Collaboration and Professional Practice * Work collaboratively with the Physical \& Health Education team and wider Middle School staff. * Contribute to curriculum planning, moderation and departmental development. * Share effective practice and contribute positively to the school's professional learning community. * Participate actively in professional development, including IB and MYP training. * Reflect regularly on teaching practice and use feedback and evidence to improve student outcomes. * Maintain effective communication with parents/carers regarding student progress, participation and wellbeing. * Contribute positively to the wider life and culture of ISL Qatar. Person Specification Essential * Recognised teaching qualification. * Bachelor's degree or equivalent in **Physical Education, Physical \& Health Education, Sports Science or a related discipline**. * Experience teaching Physical Education to Middle School / secondary\-aged students. * Strong knowledge of physical education pedagogy, curriculum planning and assessment. * Ability to teach a broad range of sports and physical activities. * Strong understanding of student safety and risk management in physical education. * Ability to differentiate physical activities to meet a wide range of abilities and needs. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing. * Commitment to safeguarding and child protection. * Willingness to engage with and develop expertise in IB MYP practice. Desirable * Previous experience teaching **IB MYP Physical and Health Education**. * IB MYP Category 1 or higher training in Physical and Health Education. * Experience assessing against MYP Physical and Health Education criteria. * Coaching qualifications or recognised experience in specific sports. * Experience supporting competitive school sports programmes. * First Aid / CPR qualification. * Experience working in an international school or culturally diverse educational environment. * Experience supporting students with additional learning needs within Physical Education.
