Mechanical Engineer Assistant – Heavy\-Truck Maintenance

Five M Waste Management is seeking a technically capable and organized **Mechanical Engineer Assistant** to support the management, planning and supervision of maintenance activities for our fleet of heavy trucks and waste\-management equipment.
The successful candidate must have previous experience in the maintenance of heavy trucks and should be able to support both workshop operations and maintenance administration.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist the Mechanical Engineer and Maintenance Manager in managing daily workshop activities.
* Inspect heavy trucks and identify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and chassis\-related faults.
* Support the diagnosis of repeated vehicle breakdowns and operational problems.
* Prepare preventive\-maintenance schedules for trucks, trailers and waste\-management equipment.
* Monitor upcoming service requirements based on mileage, operating hours and vehicle condition.
* Follow up on repair jobs and ensure vehicles are completed within the required time.
* Prepare and update job cards, inspection reports and maintenance records.
* Record labour hours, spare parts used, repair costs and vehicle downtime.
* Coordinate with mechanics, hydraulic technicians, electricians, welders and tyre technicians.
* Inspect completed repair work before the vehicle is released to operations.
* Assist in identifying the correct spare parts using chassis numbers, vehicle models, part numbers and technical manuals.
* Coordinate with the Procurement Officer and Storekeeper regarding spare\-parts availability.
* Monitor workshop productivity and pending repair jobs.
* Analyze recurring faults and recommend corrective or preventive actions.
* Assist in investigating vehicle breakdowns, accidents and major mechanical failures.
* Prepare daily, weekly and monthly maintenance reports.
* Monitor fuel consumption, tyre condition, battery condition and other vehicle\-performance indicators.
* Ensure workshop staff follow safety procedures and maintenance standards.
* Support the implementation and improvement of the company’s ERP maintenance module.
* Maintain an updated fleet register showing vehicle condition, maintenance status and repair history.
* Attend vehicle breakdowns or site inspections when required.
Requirements
* Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related technical field.
* Minimum 2–3 years of experience in heavy\-truck maintenance.
* Practical knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, hydraulics and chassis components.
* Experience with tippers, skip loaders, hook loaders or waste\-management vehicles is strongly preferred.
* Ability to understand workshop job cards, technical manuals and spare\-parts catalogues.
* Strong Microsoft Excel and reporting skills.
* Experience using fleet\-management or ERP maintenance systems is an advantage.
* Good communication and coordination skills.
* Ability to supervise technicians and follow up on multiple repair jobs.
* Valid UAE driving licence is an advantage.
* UAE experience is preferred.
