Job description

The Legal Advisor ensures legal compliance with the country s laws and regulations and mitigates risks within the Bank. He/ She provides expert legal counsel and guidance to support the bank in various legal matters and facilitates adherence to regulatory frameworks. Key Accountabilities: Provides legal advice and guidance to business units and support functions on corporate, commercial, contractual, and operational matters to support business objectives and ensure legal compliance. Drafts, reviews, negotiates, and interprets contracts, agreements, memoranda of understanding, non-disclosure agreements, service agreements, procurement contracts, and other legal documents to protect the Bank s interests. Reviews commercial transactions, strategic projects, and business initiatives and identifies legal risks and appropriate mitigation measures prior to execution. Ensures contracts, transactions, and business activities comply with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and internal governance frameworks. Supports strategic initiatives, outsourcing arrangements, technology projects, partnerships, and other corporate transactions by providing legal and regulatory advice throughout the project lifecycle. Develops and maintains legal templates, precedents, and contract management practices to strengthen consistency, operational efficiency, and legal risk management. Monitors legal and regulatory developments and assesses their impact on the Bank s operations, products, services, and contractual arrangements. Recommends appropriate actions to ensure ongoing compliance. Reviews policies, procedures, frameworks, and governance documents and ensures alignment with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Supports the management of litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution matters by coordinating with external legal counsel, monitoring case progress, reviewing legal documentation, and evaluating settlement proposals. Prepares legal opinions, memoranda, reports, and presentations and delivers legal awareness and guidance to employees on contractual, regulatory, and legal risk matters. Bachelor s degree in law. Minimum of 6 years of relevant legal experience in legal firms or Corporates. Experience in banking or financial services is desired. Strong knowledge of banking and financial regulations, compliance, and legal standards. Familiarity with Commercial law, Contracts review, risk management, and dispute resolution. Proven track record of excellent research, communication stakeholder management and negotiation abilities. High ethical standards and a commitment to confidentiality.
