Job description

Job Reference: 251623 Upstream **Start Date:** 01/09/2026**Applications close on:** 28/08/2026**Contract Type:** Contract**Country:** Saudi Arabia**Discipline:** Hydraulics**Job Contact:** **Our Client in Saudi Arabia is looking to hire a Hydraulics Engineer for a large project in the Kingdom.** =========================================================================================================== ### **Minimum experience requirement: 15 years. This is a mandatory screening criterion.** **Role Summary** We are seeking a Hydraulics Engineer (Design) to lead Task C — Assessment and Update of the Design Package for the city’s dewatering systems. The role assesses and modernizes the design criteria, methodology, specifications and tender documents, and analyzes dewatering\-system alternatives to recommend the optimum system for each area. This is the hydraulic\-design authority for the program: it owns the dewatering design standards, produces reusable tender packages, reviews third\-party technical submittals, delivers urgent detailed designs on request, and investigates water\-rise complaints to propose practical solutions. The role’s hydraulic expertise also informs the water\-balance and modeling tasks. **Accountability** The Hydraulics Engineer is accountable for a modernized, defensible dewatering design package — criteria, specifications and tender templates — for optimum\-system recommendations per area, for timely review of third\-party submittals and urgent designs, and for hydraulic input consistent with the water\-balance and modeling tasks. **Key Competencies** Dewatering design – Owns design criteria, methodology and specifications for dewatering and drainage systems. Alternatives analysis – Selects the optimum dewatering system per area against governing parameters. Tender packages – Produces reusable, review\-ready design templates and tender documents. Submittal review – Reviews and approves third\-party designs and running\-project changes. Hydraulic modeling – Supports design with 1D network and 2D overland\-flow analysis. Value engineering – Targets whole\-of\-life effectiveness and cost across design choices. **Core Responsibilities (Task C)** 1\.1 Design\-Package Assessment \& Update * Revise and assess the current design package — design criteria, methodology, specifications, drawings, details, materials and tender documents. * Update the design package to the newest technologies and establish design templates and tender documents for future projects. * Design a detailed integrated training program (design, modeling, monitoring) for client staff. 1\.2 Dewatering\-System Alternatives \& Optimization * Analyze alternative dewatering systems and recommend the optimum system(s) for each area of the city against the governing parameters, with special attention to eastern Riyadh. * Manage all available dewatering systems in one editable GIS map with unified symbols and data appearance, extendable for new projects. * Evaluate existing dewatering projects’ efficiency in water\-table control to inform the recommended approach. 1\.3 Submittal Review \& Urgent Designs * Review and approve technical submittals sent by other parties (consultants, investors), including design changes on running construction projects. * Deliver small and medium detailed designs of dewatering systems for areas requiring urgent improvement, including site verification where needed. * Investigate water\-rise complaints, determine the cause, and propose practical solutions where groundwater rise is confirmed. 1\.4 Hydraulic Modeling Support \& Integration * Provide 1D dewatering pipe/canal and 2D overland\-flow hydraulic representation to support design decisions and the interface with the numerical groundwater model. * Apply the value\-engineering concept across design activities so investment targets the greatest benefit per unit cost. * Apply the value\-engineering concept across design activities so investment targets the greatest benefit per unit cost. **Task C Deliverables the Role Leads** The Hydraulics Engineer leads the Task C deliverables across the program term (\*urgent packages are due three months after each client request): Task C Deliverable / Content the Role Leads Task Inception Report / Methodology, assessment of current design methodology, action plan. Term M2 Tender\-Document Templates \& Updated Package / Updated design criteria, specifications and reusable tender templates. Term M8 Urgent Tender Package(s) / Complete detailed\-design tender packages for urgent areas, on client request. Term M\+3\* Task Completion Report / User manual, training, package evaluation and closeout. Term M12 **Minimum Qualifications \& Experience** A minimum of fifteen (15\) years of professional experience in hydraulic and dewatering\-system design is required, consistent with the program’s Category B requirement (15\+ years, degree and accredited professional membership). Candidates below this threshold will not be considered. * 15\+ years in hydraulic design of dewatering, drainage and groundwater\-lowering systems (slotted\-pipe/subsurface drains, wellpoint systems, canals and culverts). * Degree (Master’s preferred) in civil, water\-resources, hydraulic or environmental engineering, with accredited professional membership. * Strong command of design criteria, methodology and specifications for dewatering and drainage infrastructure, and of tender\-document preparation. * Proven ability to analyze alternative dewatering systems and recommend the optimum solution per area against governing parameters. * Experience reviewing and approving third\-party technical submittals and design changes on running construction projects. * Hydraulic modeling competence (1D pipe/canal/wadi flow, 2D overland/rainfall\-runoff) to support design decisions and the numerical model interface. * Familiarity with the special conditions of eastern Riyadh and with value\-engineering of infrastructure solutions. ### **Benefit of Working with Visuna?** * A dedicated member of the team responsible for your placements and welfare * Some of the best day rates in the industry * FREE worldwide insurance and Medevac cover whist on a Placement * 24/7 access to our specialist support team * Assistance and advice on a range of business topics * FREE access to our Competency Scheme * Increased exposure to potential clients and more placement opportunities
