Job description

The Homeroom Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction across the elementary curriculum while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. The teacher is responsible for the academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development of students within their class and works collaboratively with colleagues and parents to ensure every child achieves success. Key Responsibilities Teaching and Learning • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons aligned to the American curriculum and AERO/Common Core standards. • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners. • Use a variety of effective teaching strategies to maximise student engagement and achievement. • Deliver explicit instruction in reading, writing and mathematics. • Implement school literacy initiatives including: Read Write Inc. Phonics (Grades 1-2) Guided Reading Shared Reading Reading Fluency • Promote critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving. • Establish high expectations for learning and behaviour. Assessment • Use formative and summative assessment to inform planning. • Analyse student achievement data including: MAP Growth School-based assessments Running Records Common Assessments • Track student progress and implement interventions where required. • Maintain accurate assessment records. Classroom Environment • Create a positive, safe and inclusive classroom. • Establish consistent classroom routines. • Maintain attractive learning displays. • Promote student independence and responsibility. • Implement the school's behaviour policy consistently. Student Welfare • Promote student wellbeing. • Develop positive relationships with students. • Identify students requiring additional academic or pastoral support. • Work collaboratively with Inclusion staff and counsellors. Communication • Maintain regular communication with parents. • Attend parent conferences. • Provide accurate progress reports. • Respond professionally to parent enquiries. Professional Responsibilities • Attend staff meetings and professional development. • Participate in collaborative planning. • Contribute to whole-school initiatives. • Support extracurricular activities where appropriate. • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities at all times. Bachelor's Degree in Education or relevant subject. Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE/B.Ed.). Minimum two years teaching experience preferred. Excellent English communication skills.
