Job description
The General Manager (GM) will oversee the entire operations, strategy, and growth of the ship agency company. This leadership role entails responsibility for driving operational excellence, financial performance, and business growth, while ensuring high standards of customer satisfaction and compliance with industry regulations
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership
• Develop and implement the company’s strategic plans to achieve business objectives, financial goals, and market expansion.
• Identify new business opportunities, market trends, and partnerships to enhance the company’s competitive position.
• Foster strong relationships with stakeholders, including shipowners, charterers, port authorities, and regulatory bodies.
2. Operational Management
• Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficient and cost-effective service delivery.
• Ensure compliance with international maritime laws, local regulations, and company policies.
• Optimize resource allocation and implement processes to improve operational performance and efficiency.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and prepare regular reports.
3. Financial Management
• Manage budgets, ensuring profitability and cost control.
• Analyze financial performance, identify risks, and implement corrective measures to achieve targets.
• Ensure timely invoicing, payment collection, and financial reporting.
4. Customer Service Excellence
• Establish and maintain excellent relationships with clients to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty.
• Act as the primary escalation point for client concerns and resolve operational issues promptly.
• Drive initiatives to improve service quality, response times, and overall customer experience.
5. People Management
• Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
• Ensure compliance with labor laws and promote a culture of safety, diversity, and inclusivity.
6. Risk Management and Compliance
• Identify potential risks and implement strategies to mitigate them, ensuring business continuity.
• Oversee compliance with maritime, environmental, and occupational safety standards.
• Stay updated on industry regulations and emerging risks to adapt company policies as needed.
Education and Experience:
• Master Mariner or Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in ship agency, maritime, or shipping operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• In-depth knowledge of the maritime industry, port operations, and international shipping regulations.
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong leadership and strategic planning abilities.
• Excellent financial acumen and experience managing budgets and P&L statements.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with stakeholders.
• Proven track record in driving business growth and operational excellence.
• Ability to work under pressure, make decisions, and solve problems effectively.
