Secondary Food & Nutrition Teacher Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE School Type: British Curriculum International School Start Date: August/September 2026 Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent Job Summary We are seeking a passionate, safety-conscious, and dynamic Secondary Food & Nutrition Teacher to join our Technology & Applied Sciences department. You will deliver high-quality practical and theoretical lessons across Key Stage 3 (Food Technology) and Key Stage 4/5 (GCSE/A-Level Food Preparation & Nutrition). We welcome applications from experienced specialists and fully support Early Career Teachers (ECTs) looking to bring culinary and nutritional expertise to our vibrant international school. Key Responsibilities Deliver Practical & Theoretical Instruction: Plan and execute engaging, hands-on cooking practicals and theoretical nutrition lessons aligned with the British National Curriculum. Manage Kitchen Safety & Hygiene: Oversee the food preparation room, ensuring strict adherence to Health and Safety regulations, food hygiene standards, and safe equipment usage. Adapt to Cultural Context: Tailor teaching methods and recipe selections to respect local cultural norms, dietary laws (Halal), and inspire students across junior and gender-segregated senior classes. Assess and Monitor: Evaluate students practical culinary skills and theoretical knowledge, tracking progress against UK exam board criteria. Exam Preparation: Thoroughly prepare senior students for external GCSE/IGCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition and related vocational or A-Level examinations. Inventory & Budget Management: Manage food department budgets, order ingredients, maintain kitchen inventory, and ensure resources are utilized efficiently. Requirements & Qualifications To meet UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) visa and teacher licensing guidelines, you must possess one of the following qualification pathways: Pathway 1: An internationally recognized Bachelor s Degree in Education specializing in Food Technology / Design & Technology / Home Economics , plus QTS (or equivalent). Pathway 2: An internationally recognized Bachelor s Degree in Food Science / Nutrition / Home Economics / Hospitality Management , plus a PGCE/PGDE specializing in Secondary D&T or Food, plus QTS (or equivalent). Additional Criteria: Certifications: A valid Food Hygiene/Food Safety certificate (Level 2 or higher) is highly desirable. Experience Level: Open to both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs). Curriculum Knowledge: Deep familiarity with UK exam boards (e.g., AQA, Eduqas, OCR) for GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition. Cultural Awareness: Sensitivity to local dietary customs and cultural frameworks within an international environment.
