Organization Dubai Safari Park Job Title Curator for Birds and Reptiles Department Life Sciences Unit Zoology Reporting to Head of Life Sciences Role Overview Role Summary Managing the Park's animal collection and overseeing all aspects of animal care at the Park Main Duties • Making decisions involving animal husbandry, diets, capture and restraint procedures, enrichment activities, animal transportation, and research projects. • Establishing protocols for animal husbandry, breeding programs and population management in the park. • Responsible for selection and acquisition of new animals for the collection as well as to formulate the Institutional Collection Plan. • Liaise with other institutions and zoos worldwide in regards to animal exchanges, regional breeding plans and cooperation of research and partnership. • Responsible for maintaining the database of animal record keeping (daily reports, ZIMS and internal stock list, animal diets, safety inspections, daily animal rounds and daily reports to the General Curator and Head of Life Sciences). • Supervise in Exhibit and Holding design for the animals in the park to ensure the integrity and suitability of the animal areas. • Involved directly in preparing and administrating applicable annual budgets for the department. • Along with the operations and safety department, initiate the emergency response team and is involved directly in tackling any animal emergencies within the park. • Ensuring the facility meets all state and federal regulatory requirements as well as the standards of zoological associations worldwide. • Directly involved in conservation research programs for Dubai Safari Park. • Other duties as assigned. DUBAI SAFARI PARK LIFE SCIENCES DATA OPEN Role Specification Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Zoology, Zoo Management or equivalent Experience At least eight (8) years of zoo animal care experience, including five (5) years supervisory experience. Skills Proficiency in the use of computer operating systems; written and oral communication; research and the Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) software. Renumeration Commensurate with experience
