Associate Professor, Transfusion Medicine MLS Department: MLS Campus: College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sohar Reporting To: Head of BS-MLS Department Teaching & Academic Duties • Teach undergraduate MLS courses in: • Blood Banking & Transfusion Medicine • Immunohematology • Transfusion Safety and Practices • Related laboratory disciplines as required by the department • Develop and deliver lectures, practical sessions, and case-based learning activities • Supervise student laboratory training and clinical competencies • Assess student performance through OSPE, practical exams, and coursework Student Support & Mentorship • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students • Guide students in career pathways within transfusion medicine and laboratory sciences • Monitor student progress and support students with academic challenges Curriculum Development & Quality Assurance • Contribute to curriculum design, review, and enhancement • Align course outcomes with program learning outcomes (PLOs) and accreditation standards • Develop assessment tools, blueprints, and rubrics Clinical Training & Coordination • Coordinate clinical placements • Liaise with hospital preceptors and laboratory supervisors • Ensure clinical training aligns with competency-based education standards • Participate in evaluation of students during clinical practice rotations Research & Scholarly Activities • Conduct and publish research in transfusion medicine, immunohematology, or related fields • Supervise student research projects • Engage in interdisciplinary research collaborations • Participate in grant applications and academic dissemination Professional & Institutional Service • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees • Contribute to CME activities, workshops, and outreach programs • Assist in organizing academic events (e.g., BMS day, research day, scientific meetings) • Support accreditation and audit processes Administrative & General Duties • Attend and actively participate in faculty and departmental meetings • Support exam preparation, invigilation, and grading processes • Mentor junior faculty and laboratory instructors • Perform any additional duties assigned by the Head of Department Core Competencies • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Excellent communication and teaching abilities • Ability to integrate theory with clinical practice • Commitment to student-centered learning and innovation • Strong teamwork and interprofessional collaboration skills Personal Attributes • Professional integrity and ethical practice • Adaptability and commitment to continuous improvement • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural academic environment Minimum Qualification: PhD in Blood Banking, Transfusion Medicine, Immunohematology, Hematology, or related Biomedical Sciences from a recognized institution. Experience: Minimum 8 years of teaching experience in blood banking, transfusion medicine, immunohematology, or related disciplines in a recognized medical or health sciences institution Minimum 5 years of practical experience in a hospital blood bank or transfusion service laboratory. Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is a must. Requirement /Skills: Age from :35 55 Good record of publications and scholarly activities Candidate with academic rank and teaching background preferred Preferred Additional Qualifications • Certification in Medical Education or Health Professions Education • Specialized training in: • Advanced immunohematology • Apheresis and component therapy • Transfusion safety and hemovigilance • Experience with modern blood bank technologies and automation systems
